Optimizing the number and location of actuators in active control systems play a vital role in controlling structures and reducing the cost of implementation of the control systems. Several cost functions and decision indices can be checked by the designer in order to optimal actuator placement. However, due to the inevitable presence of various uncertainties in active control systems, such as time delay, parametric uncertainty, and sensor/actuator faults, the aforementioned uncertainties should be included in the controller design. In this research, the optimal location of actuators for the active tendons control system is investigated in the presence of uncertainties, and the effect of each of them is evaluated. For this purpose, three and five-story shear structures with different locations of active tendons are considered which are vibrated by a synthetic earthquake. By examining the simultaneous presence of time delay and parametric uncertainty, it is shown that the location of active tendons is more sensitive to parametric uncertainty. Studying the sensor/actuator faults along with the time delay and parametric uncertainty illustrates that this type of uncertainty does not play a significant role in determining the optimal placement of the active tendons. Therefore, the uncertainty of the sensor/actuator fault can be ignored.
