The subject of the earthquake equivalent acceleration in the aboveground elliptical tanks has been dealed with in this study. Tank basically is a structure used for the storage of various fluids and in such types as ground and elevated and also concrete and steel, has extensive application in sewage plants, refineries and factories. Considering the application of substantial dynamic and hydrodynamic forces on a large tank in the event of an earthquake and high importance of complete function continuation of this structure in critical conditions, the study of its seismic behavior is of great importance. Horizontal and vertical earthquake equivalent accelerations are needed in seismic loading of tanks using Housner theory relations, hence the purpose of current study is finding relations with suitable accuracy for these parameters in elliptical tanks. To achieve this purpose, various elliptical tanks have been modeled by the finite elements technique in ANSYS software and dynamically have been analyzed under different earthquakes. Then nonlinear relations have been found for these parameters using statistical regression method based on the conclusions of finite elements method. It was concluded from the current study that the average precision of the horizontal and vertical earthquake equivalent acceleration relations proposed in this study, is 16 % and 26 % higher than that of the earthquake equivalent acceleration relation proposed in the nuclear reactors design code respectively.
