Due to the increasing need for the construction of new tunnels, the intersection of tunnels with underground structures (aqueducts) has been given more attention by engineers and researchers. When a large-diameter tunnel is excavated in the vicinity of existing underground structures (aqueducts), it will cause changes in the shape, displacements, moments and axial forces produced, as well as tensile and compressive stresses. In this article, the effect of face pressure is investigated by numerical software FLAC3D in the tunnel excavation of Tabriz urban railway line 2 on existing aqueducts at 3+750 km. In the numerical model, the distance of the tunnel from the aqueduct in two cases of 2.5 and 5 meters, as well as two cases with parallel (zero degrees) and perpendicular (90 degrees) angles of the tunnel to the aqueduct are considered, and the permissible displacements of the aqueduct and tunnel are considered Been investigated. In order to validate the numerical model, the results of modelling have been compared with the results of instrumentation and analytical relationships. The results showed that the difference between numerical model results and instrumented results is about 8% and compared to analytical relations is about 3%. Based on the results of numerical modelling, with the increase in pressure, the amount of displacements in the aqueduct and ground maintenance system decreases by 60%, and with the decrease of pressure, the displacements are increasing. Also, increase in face pressure causes a reduction of 27% to 42% in axial forces generated in the aqueduct maintenance system.
