[English]

The bearing capacity of slopes, particularly when subjected to surface surcharges, is a long-standing and complex issue in geotechnical engineering. Numerous theoretical and empirical studies have been conducted on this topic. However, a review of available literature indicates that most of these studies have focused on the bearing capacity of homogeneous, primarily sand slopes, or slopes with horizontal layered soils, with or without reinforcement. In practice, it may be necessary to construct structures on sloping ground with inclined layered soils, which present greater challenges and concerns in evaluating bearing capacity compared to the previously mentioned scenarios. Therefore, this study experimentally and numerically investigates the role of the thickness and position of an inclined weak layer on the bearing capacity of clay slopes supporting strip footings. This investigation was conducted for three slope angles: 30, 45 and 60 degrees. Assuming a fixed footing position at the edge of the inclined weak layer, the slope angle, along with the thickness and position of the layer (at the face or inside the slope), were considered as the main variables.
