[English]

Seismic retrofitting of existing buildings, particularly at the foundation level, is of great importance. Various methods have been employed over the past several decades to improve and strengthen existing or aged foundations. One of the most important methods is the use of micropiles. As a significant innovation of this study, the effects of micropile spacing, the interactions among the micropiles, raft, and soil, as well as different group configurations, are explicitly considered in the three-dimensional numerical models, in contrast to the existing analytical design relationships. Furthermore, unlike analytical approaches, the design criterion adopted in this study is primarily based on the settlement performance of the numerical models. Within the framework of a research program involving three-dimensional numerical simulations using the explicit finite-difference program, the load-bearing capacity of micropile groups in clayey soil under axial compressive loading is first determined. The obtained results are then compared and correlated with those of existing analytical relationships and selected experimental findings.
