Abstract

In the present research, the elastic perfectly plastic and hardening behavior of the sandy soil, located under the inverted folded shell strip foundation, have been modeled in Plaxis software. The analysis is based on the Mohr–Coulomb theory. Moreover, the distribution of internal forces and the effects of variations in the width and thickness of the shell foundations on the bearing capacity have been investigated. The results of the numerical analysis have been compared with the analytical relations proposed by Rinaldi in 2012.
